Who is the Texas State Society of Washington, D.C.
and what is the Black Tie & Boots Presidential Inaugural Ball?
The history of the Texas State Society of Washington, D.C. (TSS) is like everything else in Texas- bigger and better! The TSS story began on December 19, 1904 when all Texans living in Washington, D.C. were invited to form a social club. TSS was formed to foster and encourage a fraternal spirit among the Texans at the National Capital, to render assistance when necessary to all sons and daughters of the Lone Star State, and to increase their patriotic love for Texas and the American Nation. That mission is alive and well today, as we continue to foster that fraternal, bipartisan spirit.

From its inception, the Texas State Society has been a staple among Texans in the nation’s capital and has played host of some of the most prominent DC events in recent years, including annual barbecues, festivals, holiday celebrations, breakfast clubs, annual congressional welcome receptions, and inaugural activities. We have drawn some of the most notable Texans to our events from President Lyndon B. Johnson and countless Members of Congress to well-known personalities like Willie Nelson and Jamie Foxx. There is perhaps no better known Texas State Society event than the Black Tie & Boots Inaugural Ball. Since its 1953 inception as a pre-inaugural cocktail party hosted for President Dwight Eisenhower, it has increased in notoriety to be the most popular inaugural ball in town, including as many as 25 musical acts over the years.
